CTC x Gemini Prompt-a-Thon

The CTC x Gemini Prompt-a-Thon is a fast-paced, beginner-friendly AI building event hosted by Commit the Change at UC Irvine in collaboration with Google Gemini.

In just one evening, participants will form teams, experiment with prompting, and build creative AI-powered solutions focused on social impact. Whether you are a designer, developer, product thinker, or complete beginner, this event is designed to help students explore the future of AI-assisted creation in a fun and collaborative environment.

Participants will build using:

  • Google AI Studio

  • Google Gemini

  • Google Antigravity

Teams are encouraged to use these tools to brainstorm ideas, engineer prompts, create UI mockups, and prototype working products.

What Makes This Event Special?

Unlike traditional overnight hackathons, this event focuses on rapid prototyping, creativity, and learning. The goal is not just to code, but to explore how AI tools like Gemini can help turn ideas into working solutions quickly.

Participants will also have the opportunity to:

  • network with CTC members and Google representatives

  • experiment with modern AI workflows and vibecoding

  • win official Google and Gemini prizes and swag

  • collaborate with students across different majors and skill levels

No prior AI or prompting experience is required. Just bring your creativity and willingness to build.

Requirements

Submission Requirements

To complete your submission, each team must submit the following on Devpost before the deadline:

Required Deliverables
  • Project Name

  • Team Member Names

  • Short Project Description

  • Problem Statement
Explain what issue your project is solving and why it matters.

  • Solution Overview
Describe how your project works and how you used AI tools in the process.

  • Tech Stack Used
Include any tools, frameworks, or APIs used, especially:

    • Google AI Studio

    • Google Gemini

    • Google Antigravity

  • Github Repository
Include a public repo with your project code and README.

  • Demo / Prototype
Your project should include a working prototype, demo, mockup, or functional proof of concept.

  • Prompting Workflow
Briefly explain or showcase how your team used Gemini during development. Judges may ask to see prompting history or workflows during demos.

Optional (Recommended)
  • Screenshots or UI mockups

  • Demo video

  • Slides or pitch deck

  • Future improvements / roadmap

Judging Presentation

After submissions close, teams will present their project live to the judging panel. Presentations should clearly explain:

  • how Gemini was used

  • the impact of your project

Projects do not need to be fully production-ready. Creativity, impact, and thoughtful use of AI tools are more important than polished deployment.
